Village Information Pack
We have designed and produced an information pack of leaflets and booklets for distribuion in our operating communities and neighbouring villages. It was designed to be reproduced extremely cheaply - by photocopying on to coloured paper. This may not work in areas where there is a high level of donor or NGO activity - i.e. where communities have become accustomed to high production standards - but is fine in the relatively neglected parts of southern Tanzania where the Mpingo Conservation Project operates.
Each leaflet and booklet costs less than US $1 to produce so that there are no budget restrictions in handing them out. Often times we will give them out to every child at school with the aim of penetrating around 90% of households in a village. While not everyone in a village is literate most households will either include someone who is literate or know a friend who is. In this way our message reaches a much wider constituency than the average village meeting, and by-passes existing elites, who even though they may be elected representatives, are often poor at passing on information to their constituents. We also take care to visit outlying sub-villages and hamlets which are ignored by other development outreach programmes.
The information pack currently is made up of the following components:
Mpingo's Value (folded A4 leaflet)

Our Forest for Our Community (A5 booklet)
