FSC Certified Area expands 300%

The total area of FSC-certified, community-managed forest in Tanzania increased by 300% with the additional of Nanjirinji A Village Land Forest Reserve to MCDI's FSC Group Certificate scheme in October 2012.

Nanjirinji's new community-managed forest covers 61,505 hectares of Miombo woodland in a remote area of Southern Tanzania, close to the Selous Game Reserve, and is rich in valuable species such as African backwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon), Panga panga (Millettia stuhlmanii) and Bloodwood (Pterocarpus angolensis).

The total area of forest covered under the MCDI FSC Group certificate now exceeds 82,000 hectares.
